What to Expect From a Family Photography Session

During our session, I focus on the little things - how your son scrunches up his face when he laughs, the way your daughter wraps her fingers around your necklace, the quiet glances and belly giggles. These are the fleeting moments you’ll want to look back on.

We can head out for a walk with the dog, hang out at home, play board games, build a bonfire in the garden or help mum make pancakes in the kitchen. Wherever you feel most yourselves is where the best photographs happen.

There’s no pressure to pose or perform - these sessions are laid back, creative and family led. Just honest moments, beautifully captured.

Whatever the reason, my goal is always the same: to photograph your family just as they are, with warmth, authenticity and connection.

My style is candid and documentary based, meaning I’ll gently guide when needed, but mostly step back and let your story unfold. The result is a collection of photographs that truly feel like you.

Location, Ideas and Flexibility

Whether you want to hike to the top of a hill, explore the woods, hang out at home in your pyjamas or hop on a quad bike - I’m up for it.

We’ll chat before the session to figure out what feels right for your family. I’ll send over a short questionnaire after you’ve booked to get to know you better, and we’ll choose the best day and time depending on the light and weather.

Sessions usually last between 1–2 hours, and I always leave space for the unexpected - we know how quickly kids’ moods (and Scottish skies) can change.

How It Works

It all starts with a relaxed phone call. We’ll chat about your ideas, your family, and what you’d love from the session. You can ask anything - this part is all about making sure you feel comfortable and excited.

Once booked, I’ll send a simple questionnaire to help shape the shoot and make it personal to you.

On the day, it’s just me, my two cameras, and 20 years of experience photographing families in a way that’s relaxed, playful and meaningful. No studio lights. No complicated setups. Just honest, natural family photography.
